A Is For serves as a unifying forum which utilizes social media to spotlight issues and encourage activism. A Is For also serves as an ally and advocate for organizations working to protect reproductive rights; A is for All of us.

I’m adamant that I will fight to keep my body mine. I am adamant that I will do everything I can to spread the word about infertility and how painful it is to suffer through. I’m adamant that I will fight hard so that my tax dollars will NEVER pay for someone to have an abortion simply because they forgot what happens when a penis is inserted into a vagina. I’m adamant that assholes who barf out how important it is to use my tax dollars for such procedures will never have my sympathy.
Leanne, if you want to fight to keep your body yours then you will excuse the rest of us for wanting to do the same thing. You claim abortion happens because some women “forgot what happens when a penis is inserted into a vagina”. Well, how about the women who are pregnant as a result of rape or incest? Would you have them suffer through 9 months of pregnancy, remembering everyday that what grows inside of them is the result of a traumatic, life shattering experience? I’m tired of assholes thinking they can dictate MY life and MY decisions because of THEIR beliefs. There are literally millions of children in this world without a home, and plenty in this country in the foster system, so if someone is infertile, they have options. Funny how people care about a strangers fetus, but when that child is born and placed into an orphanage or the foster system how those same people will forget the child exists. Stop whining about your tax dollars, dictate YOUR life by YOUR beliefs, and leave the rest of us to do the same.
I believe that the use of birth control has allowed more women to first live then to reach their potential in education as well as careers. It allows women choices and it has made both women and children healthier. We have to fight for our rights. We will never go back to back alley abortions. We have to keep all forms of birth control safe and legal and in the last resort we have to keep abortion safe and legel
Edwina, please tell me, is abortion a form of birth control? Like taking the pill or using a condom? Or is it the ending of a life? Is abortion the end of a clump of insignificant cells, or is it a human beings life being ended? If it’s a pile of non-human cells, why would it matter if abortion is rare or used as a last resort?
Anyone who advocates for abortion so that it’s “safe, legal and rare” or used as a last resort, knows…KNOWS…that it ends that babies life. Otherwise, why try to limit it at all if it’s of no moral significance. Lets be intellectually honest here.
If we can agree that it’s the ending of a human life, and that’s why it should be rare and not used as a form of birth control, then we’re saying we’re ok with murder sometimes. There are truths in life. If we believe that abortion is the ending of a human life, then why not outlaw it? Don’t we outlaw murder? People have been killing each other since the dawn of time. Just because people continue to do it, doesn’t mean it should be legalized.
Shannon, abortion is a form of birth control. Do you mean it shouldn’t be used as the primary form of birth control? I can’t imagine anyone who would routinely rely on abortion instead of contraceptives as their main method of preventing parenthood.
Statistically, restrictions (as in making it illegal) on abortions don’t prevent abortions from happening. It only prevents safe abortions from happening. Women will always find ways to end unwanted pregnancies. It’s a fact of life. That’s why it should be kept legal, so women don’t have to do it at back alley clinics or at home, which could result in their deaths.
Shannon, did you know that sperm and eggs are also alive? Do you believe in birth control, or do you think that those half babies are being slaughtered by condoms around the world daily?
I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to see conservative posts met with erudite, rational, well-thought responses from women who a) disagree with intelligence and diplomacy and b) know what is at stake with losing our reproductive freedom.
You ladies – Leanne and Shannon – convinced me to donate to this site this evening. Not just because I disagree with you, but because you’ve proven what an uphill battle is at hand. I mean when women I would otherwise consider fellows in the fight for equality would *happily* lose their own rights to make choices that SHOULD only be between themselves, their doctor, and their chosen deity (the Christian G-d or otherwise), all to further a regressive legislation agenda well…..
That genie is not going back in the bottle. Certainly not if I can help it.
Can’t wait to get my “A” and record a video!
